About Scott

The following, admittedly written in the third person, is copied from the ‘About Our Pastor’ page of the church I currently serve.

“Pastor Scott Masters, was born in Rhode Island in 1970, raised in Orlando, Florida, and moved to the Concord, NH area as a young teen. He attended Keene State College, in Keene NH where he majored in Mathematics and History. After transferring to Franklin Pierce University, he graduated Summa Cum Laude, with a degree in Finance and Public Accounting. He has also completed graduate work in Supply Chain Economics at the Florida Institute of Technology, and is working towards his Masters in Finance at Southern New Hampshire University.

After rediscovering his faith as a young adult, Scott took on increasing leadership roles within the local, state, and conference levels of the United Methodist Church. He served in various roles from Treasurer and Lay Leader of his local church, to serving as a member of the NH District Ministry Strategy Team and as Co-District Laity Leader. He formally entered the Candidacy program for Ordained Ministry in the spring of 2003, and completed his licensing as a local pastor in the summer of 2006. He was assigned to Asbury Church as his first appointment, in July of 2007, by the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, Wesley Seminary in Washington, DC, and the Appalachian Local Pastor School in Barbourville, KY.

Scott’s is a proud combination of evangelical, progressive and Wesleyan background and he is committed to making faith authentic, relevant, and fun within this community. He is passionate about rediscovering discipleship, church development, and tailoring worship and outreach to meet the needs of a new generation of seekers and believers. He believes that faith should have strong personal and communal components, and is expressed most completely through service and outreach to the community. He is a passionate advocate of the Pauline tentmaking model of bivocational ministry, and serves on several regional and national boards including those that serve to promote this model of ministry and the promotion of the emergent church.

Like in his Theology, Scott is all over the place politically. On some issues he finds himself way to the right, far to the left, or hanging out dead center. He takes great pride in having survived the most liberal and the most conservative of seminaries that Methodism can offer, and believes that as people of faith we have a higher calling beyond which can be embraced by traditional political ideologies. .

Scott also works full time as the Business Planning and Forecast Manager at the Specialty Lighting Division of OSRAM Sylvania. He lives in Keene, NH and is married to Stacey, and together they have two girls; Annie and Sophie. A 4 year old Westie named Sammy and a Shiranian puppy named Maggie complete the clan. Besides the church, Scott is a passionate sports fan, wannabe marathoner, proud ethical/health/religious vegan, and die-hard movie buff.”

(Lastly, its important to note that these are not the official statements of Asbury Church of Chesterfield, or the greater United Methodist Church. These are his own random musings, and the intention of all these posts are to enable the discussion, and to take our journeys together.)
